Dr. David T. Perna has been a licensed Doctor of Chiropractic since March 2002. He is currently the Director of Complimentary Alternative Medicine (CAM) for Back and Body Medical in Midtown Manhattan. Dr. Perna graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Rutgers University in October 1997. During his first two years at Rutgers, he participated at an in-patient physical therapy internship at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, an affiliate of University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. Dr. Perna later interned with two affiliates with the JFK Medical Center in New Jersey; at the John F. Kennedy Hartwyck Nursing and Convalescent Rehabilitation Centers in his junior year and later in his senior year at the John F. Kennedy Johnson Rehabilitation Institute. At JFK Johnson, Dr. Perna also participated in a work-hardening program that focused on work-related injuries. He was awarded Dean's List several times throughout the course of his time at Rutgers University.

Because Dr. Perna knew that he would like to work with patients that wished to incorporate a better lifestyle, he knew he would need to gain experience in exercise prescription. Therefore, he worked as a Personal Trainer for several years during his time as a college student. He became a certified Strength Coach and certified Personal Trainer through the International Sports Science Association (ISSA). He was also certified as a Personal Trainer by the American Council on Exercise (ACE).

He later attended Life University in Marietta, GA where he graduated Summa Cum Laude and obtained membership to the highly competitive and prestigious International Chiropractic Honors Society, Phi Tau Delta in March 2002. During his studies, he also received certification as Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in 2002. Dr. Perna also had the opportunity to take a study-aboard program offering chiropractic care in India. Throughout his time at Life University, Dr. Perna continued to work as a personal trainer focusing specifically on back-related injuries.

After completing his Doctorate, in March of 2002, Dr. Perna was employed by Southerland Chiropractic in Smyrna, GA from March 2002 to August 2003 as the director of one of two chiropractic clinics owned by Dr. Terry Southerland. Additionally, he also continued his education after graduation by attending seminars given by the Council on Extremity Adjusting where he achieved credentials for Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP). Shortly after, in August 2003, Dr. Perna returned home to work at a multi-specialty clinic in New York City. In February 2006, Dr. Perna became Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA) Certified by the National University of Health Sciences and, in March of that year, he started peer-to-peer review of the MUA procedure. By December 2007, he also obtained post-graduate certification to perform Nerve Conduction Velocity tests (NCV) and Electromyography (EMG) by the New York Chiropractic College.

Dr. Perna is currently a member of the New York State Chiropractic Association, The Council On Extremity Adjusting, and the American Chiropractic Association.
